Earl Tracking East, Outer Banks to Atlantic Maritimes outcomes improved

If Earl tracks west our administrative office in Kennebunk may be unstaffed for a day or two. The Portland and Bangor data centers won't be affected. If CMP goes down we'll run on our generators. An on-shore Category IV hurricane may cause significant damage to coastal residences, businesses, and the fishing fleets, and ferry service may be rescheduled in some areas.

Two Real News Stories Today

First, the acquisition plan announced last May has been concluded, and Symantec has completed its $1.28bn cash acquisition of VeriSign's identity and authentication business.

This means that the Certificate business and the Signed Zone business are no longer held by the same investors. That is a structural change in the market for trust in domain names.

Second, Google and Verizon posted policy suggestions for the next generation of high-speed Internet access law.

If their proposal becomes law then there will be no network neutrality for wireless, but for wireline paid prioritization of services over the Internet would be presumed unlawful, another structural change in both the wireless and wireline markets for network access.

More below the fold.
